Wii

The T69 View- Wii are not amused!

There’s something about the Wii that I can’t quite put my finger on. I have the feeling that for the next generation, this console will be my favourite, if only for the memory of virtually boxing my grandad whilst he assures me he’ll “knock me down like a sack of shit.” The fun that the simple games has provided already makes me love the Wii.

But there’s a problem. As much as I love the Wii, I love the classic games. Putting the Virtual Console on the latest Nintendo hardware was a great idea, but I have some major problems with a few things:

1) The price of the games-
Do Nintendo really need to be charging this much for these old games? £3.75 for a downloadable NES game? Reduce the prices soon, Nintendo, because you’d have so many more sales. And what’s with Donkey Kong costing the same as Super Mario Bros? Also, throw in a free NES download with purchased Wii games or something like that. Do Nintendo really need to make that much more money from Super Mario Bros.?

2) The cheek of it-
A NES game was once released called “Donkey Kong Classics” which combined DK1 and DK2. Why do we have to download them seperately on the Virtual Console, thus paying over £7.00 for them? This sort of mentality makes me question how much I’m going to fall in love with the Virtual Console.

3) Pirates of the Cari-wii-an: The Curse of the Slack PAL
We pay more for the downloads here in Europe. Yet because Nintendo has been dedicated to preserving the games exactly as they were back in the day, I pay more for a game with lower picture quality that runs 17% slower. I refuse to attempt to see any logic in this. It is a virtual console. If I want slower, choppier games then thats fine, but I should at least have the option of switching to the games the way they were meant to be played. 20 years ago SMB came out, do I really need to wait longer to play it at the right quality?

Perhaps I’m getting a bit too wound up over something small. Maybe £3.75 really isn’t that much and Nintendo are right whilst I sit here and moan. However, you might be sitting there, an attractive, intelligent PAL gamer, nodding wildly at what I’m saying. If so, get in touch. I might include some reader views in future blogs. Hell, even if you disagree wildly, I’d like to hear your feedback.

What do wii all think about this?
