Of all the Wii titles coming out in 2008, none match the pure originality and quirkiness of No More Heroes. This game is being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and directed by Suda 51. If you don’t know who Suda 51 is, check out Killer 7 for the Gamecube or Playstation 2. This might give you an idea of the twisted (and brilliant) mind behind No More Heroes.
The graphics look insanely stylistic, with a cell shaded look similar to Killer 7. Unlike Killer 7 however, this game is not on rails. It is in fact, a free roaming environment, allowing you to run or take a vehicle wherever you please. The game uses the Wii remote and nunchu, with the nunchuk moving Travis Touchdown (the main protagonist), while the remote serves as a method of wielding your beam saber.
The storyline revolves around Travis Touchdown, who wins an internet auction for a beam saber, a weapon similar to Star Wars’ light sabers. Afterwards Travis decides to become a hitman, and must kill his way to the top, and become the number one assassin in the world.
The game looks great, and with a February 2008 release date, it still has time to become even better. If you’re a fan of the quirky, or just want to slash your way to glory with a remote, this game should be on your must buy list.
