Games That Need Re-Making: The Haunting: Starring Polterguy

There are a lot of remakes of classic games and revivals of old franchises in the video game world lately. Classic games like Bionic Commando are getting the next-gen treatment, and I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you guys some games that I would like to see get the same treatment.

The Haunting: Starring Polterguy was a game released for the Sega Genesis many a year ago. The game featured a ghost who haunts the home of of an obnoxious family. The basic goal was to jump into inanimate objects which would cause them to do all sorts of ghastly things from walls bleeding, to chairs floating. The game is totally unlike anything you’ve ever played before, and that is why it deserves the next-gen treatment.

What needs to stay:

  • Basic premise of haunting a home
  • Use of inanimate objects to scare the residents
  • Great satire on American households

What needs to go:

  • Cheesy Polterguy character (he was cool in the early 90s, but needs an update)
  • Annoying dungeon sections
  • Terrible music

The idea of haunting a home is not something we have seen since Polterguy, and could make a truly unique, interesting game to play.  Check out some footage of the original here.
