Welcome to the second edition of our Virtual Console lowdown! This time, its all about the games originally available for the Super Nintendo. Once again, keep in mind that these are my opinions, so don’t flame me if you disagree.
The Good:
F-Zero- Classic arcade style racing game with the man himself, Captain Falcon. Racing
Final Fight- Great side scrolling fighter in the same vein as Streets of Rage. Fighting
Super Castlevania IV- A solid entry into Konami’s long running vampire-hunter series. Action-Adventure
Sim City- Build your own city and watch it grow. Simulation
Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting- The classic fighting game has aged a bit, but is still fun. Fighting
The Bad:
Kirby’s Dream Course- A really bad golf game….and it has Kirby. Sports
Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior- Why download a game when the better version (Turbo) is also available. Fighting
The Must-Have:
Super Mario World- One of the greatest Mario game ever. Period. Get it. Platformer
Super Metroid- This game is a classic. It is truly timeless, and in my top ten favorite games of all time. Action-Adventure
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past- This game completes the Nintendo holy trinity that the above two games started. Action-Adventure
Donkey Kong Country- Awesome platformer that keeps you engrossed for hours. Platformer
Wow, I guess there aren’t many bad games for the SNES, at least not on the Virtual Console that is. Prepare for next time, when we cover the ultimate in classic gaming the NES.
