Captain America and the Avengers was originally a coin-op arcade game featuring a squad of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Players could choose from four Avengers mainstays: Iron Man, The Vision, Hawkeye, and the Captain himself. The game played a lot like the Ninja Turtles arcade games of the time, with wave after wave of enemies to defeat along a simple side scrolling path. Other Avengers such as Wonder Man and and Quicksilver would occasionally pop up to lend some assistance similar to X-Men on the Sega Genesis.
With Marvel Ultimate Alliance and the X-Men Legends series proving how well the Marvel universe can translate into fun, challenging games, it’s time for Marvel’s greatest to step up and take their piece of the pie. There are many diverse characters in the Avengers ever changing roster, and fan favorites such as Thor and The Hulk could fight alongside lesser known characters like Scarlet Witch and Black Knight. This would make things easy for both long time Avengers fans and newcomers alike.
A similar set up as Marvel Ultimate Alliance would be excellent, but possibly with an emphasis on following the Avengers on their most memorable adventures such as the creation of Ultron and the Kree-Skrull War. All in all, a new Avengers game never had a better chance for success than now, with multiple characters appearing in their own movies, all eventually leading up o an Avengers film.
