Wii 3.4 Firmware Update disables Homebrew Support

Today a new system update for the Nintendo Wii Entertainment System was launched. This updates mainly includes Security Fixes. The 3.4 Update disables all Homebrew Support that you have on your Hacked Wii.

This update will remove all Custom Channels that you’ve added using the Homebrew Channels. Along with that, other hacks you made like patched Saved Games will also be deleted. E.g. the twilight hack.

The Homebrew Community (WiiBrew) has issued a notice for all its Channel Users :

“At this time, WiiBrew recommends that you do not update your Wii through Nintendo, as it disables some homebrew (DVDx, PatchMii). Recent reports suggest System Menu 3.4 removes all custom channels.”

For those using the System without any modifications legally, Nintendo has added new features liked enhanced Parental Controls, USB Support for Mii Channel and other system performance updates.

Nintendo has also updated its Update Policy :

“We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels.”
