Capcom Gamers’ day has come and gone, and some awesome announcements have been made. Here’s the lowdown on all the latest Capcom software coming to a console near you.
First of all let’s get things started with Street Fighter 4. Finally the next chapter in the franchise is being released. No exact street date has been set, but my money’s on a Winter 2008/Spring 2009 release, likely on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms. Check out the trailer here.
Secondly, the new Bionic Commando game has been revealed. It’s been a long wait, but the game fans have been clamoring for is finally here. Check out the trailer for that here.
For the Wii, Capcom is gearing up Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, set to be released November 13th. Wii owners should also be excited for a Wii edition of Okami, the excellent game currently available on the PS2. The Wii version will feature upgraded graphics, as well as motion sensitive controls. We Love Golf was also shown, along with Zak and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure.
Fans of Nintendo’s hand held DS will also be excited to hear that a new chapter in the Ace Attorney series is coming soon. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney will feature Phoenix Wright from the previous games, but players will take control of a new protagonist. A new Mega Man ZX title was also on show.
For both the PS3 and 360, a new Capcom IP titled Dark Void was announced. The game is an action oriented title, featuring a jetpack toting hero. Check out that trailer here. PS3 owners will be receiving Lost Planet, and 360 owners will be receiving a remake of Street Fighter 2 for the Live Marketplace.
My 2 Cents: Street Fighter 4 looks great, but the looming question still remains: 2D or 3D? I think this could easily make or break the game for a lot of fans, but time will tell. Devil May Cry 4 looks beautiful as usual, can’t wait to get my hands bloody with that one. Lost Planet for the PS3 seems a bit “too little, too late” in my opinion. Lost Planet was a solid game, but let’s see something on the PS3 we can’t see anywhere else. Bionic Commando looks incredible, especially considering it’s a ways off. Phoenix Wright looks like a cool sequel, but when are we going to get a groundbreaking Mega Man game (Legends 3 please).
Overall, Capcom had quite an impressive showing. Say what you will about the company, but they remain and have remained one of the industry’s greatest for a reason.
